Statement on behalf of Mr. Firtash’s Legal Team Regarding the Sanctions Imposed by the UK

The imposition by the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of sanctions on Dmitry Firtash, as well as his wife, is not only entirely baseless and politically motivated, but is completely contrary to the rule of law.

Over the last 10 years, the United States Department of Justice has repeatedly sought, in politically motivated extradition proceedings, to secure Mr Firtash’s extradition from Austria to the United States. It has failed. The sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom are plainly a continuation of these politically motivated proceedings.

There are no proper grounds for the sanctions imposed on Mr Firtash in the United Kingdom. Mr Firtash has full confidence in the United Kingdom courts, and is sure that the rule of law will prevail.
