In 2020, Nika-Tera sea port handled 7.38 million tons of cargo

In 2020, the throughput of the NIKA-TERA sea port, a member of Group DF, amounted to 7.38 million tons of cargo. Within the cargo mix

  • grains, legumes, oilseeds and products of their processing represented 75% (5.55 million tons);
  • bulk cargoes (ground storage) – 18% (1.3 million tons);
  • liquid bulk cargoes – 4% (323,000 t);
  • mineral fertilizers – 3% (194,000 t).

In 2020, the sea port handled 409 vessels and increased the number of handled Panamax bulk carriers (vessels with the dead weight of about 65,000 tons) by 44% from 16 to 23 vessels.

In total, the sea port handled 63 114 railway cars and 65 910 vehicles.

“The COVID-19 pandemic and decrease in crop yields were the main reason for a 14% reduction in cargo turnover of our sea port. In 2020, grain was the main type of cargo handled. At the same time, the crisis allowed us to open a new “window of opportunity”. We are talking about the recovery in the volumes of transshipment of minerals and bitumen,” commented Mr. Alim Agakishiev, CEO, NIKA-TERA sea port.

According to him, the important achievements of the year included 100% retention of the company’s personnel and the large-scale assistance to the city’s medical institutions to withstand COVID-19.

«It was a very hard year. Though, our company has overcome the challenges with dignity. The sea port has demostrated sustainability. We believe in a gradual recovery of the market, economy and, accordingly, the volume of cargo turnover in 2021. However, much will depend on the weather conditions and the yield of key crops in this marketing year,” emphasized Mr. Alim Agakishiev.
