Titanium Metals

Group DF’s titanium metals business is represented by Zaporizhzhia Titanium and Magnesium Combine, a Ukrainian titanium slag, sponge, ingot and slab producer located in Zaporizhzhia. In 2012, Group DF invested in ZTMC by acquiring a 49% stake.

Industrial applications

Due to its high strength-to-weight ratio and resistance to corrosion, titanium is called the metal of the future. As strong as steel but two times lighter, titanium and its alloys are increasingly becoming the preferred materials in aerospace, shipbuilding, automotive, military, medical, electronics and other industries.

Zaporizhzhia Titanium and Magnesium Combine (ZTMC) is the only titanium sponge producer in all of Europe. Titanium sponge is used to make titanium ingots and alloys.

Having invested in ZTMC in 2013, Group DF began to implement a wide-ranging program to modernize and expand the company’s production capacities.

Planned in several stages, this program includes the eventual construction of a new high-quality titanium sponge production facility with an annual capacity of 40,000 tonnes, as well as the expansion of titanium slag capacities to 150,000 tonnes.

Following the Group DF’s strategy of expanding the titanium business, ZTMC launched industrial production of titanium ingots, slabs and alloys, which are higher added-value products, in July 2014. Currently, Group DF’s facilities can produce over 1,000 tonnes of each of these products a year. In future, ZTMC plans are to expand production to 12,000 tonnes per year.
