Nika-Tera and Qterminals sea ports will construct a new transportation interchange in Mykolayiv

The year of 2021 will mark the beginning of the construction of a two-level transportation interchange with a four-lane road tunnel in Korabelny district of Mykolayiv city. The interchange will be constructed at the intersection of Bogoyavlensky prospect and Ukrzaliznytsia railways.

This project will be implemented with the financial support of Nika-Tera sea port and QTerminals company. The owner of interchange construction project is the Department of Housing and Communal Services of Mykolayiv City Council.

“The construction of a new interchange will partially solve the transportation problems of the city. At present, this railway crossing is a real “traffic clot” of the city. It was designed back in the Soviet Union, without taking into account today’s traffic load. Failure to address the problems of this transportation hub causes huge traffic jams. This interferes with the normal life of Mykolayiv residents. It is very important to address the logistics issues of the city in a competent manner, step by step. I am sincerely grateful to the business for support in the implementation of this project,” said the mayor of Mykolayiv.

According to Alexander Senkevich, at the first stage of the project, Nika-Tera sea port, a member of Group DF, will bear all costs associated with the development of preliminary design and project documentation.

According to Alim Agakishiev, CEO, Nika-Tera sea port, in order to develop preliminary design and project documentation, it is necessary to obtain technical specifications from Ukrzaliznytsia and conduct special engineering and geodetic surveys. Design also involves the study of underground and overground engineering networks and the possibility of their transfer

“Our goal is to help unload and optimize traffic flows in Mykolayiv as much as possible. We believe that the implementation of this project will be an example of effective interaction between the city authorities and business. This project has clear deadlines. We believe everything will be completed on time. Conceptual proposals for design and construction will be presented by 1 May 2021. This is not the first case when the sea port helps the city improve its infrastructure. Improving the cities is one of the key domains of corporate social responsibility programs of all Group DF companies,” commented Alim Agakishiev, CEO, Nika-Tera sea port. The project will also provide for the improvement of the adjacent territories, including a comfortable pedestrian area and a drain system for the removal of precipitation, surface and melt water. According to Nika-Tera top manager, a thorough project preparation will allow to avoid unnecessary construction costs.“Our goal is to help unload and optimize traffic flows in Mykolayiv as much as possible. QTerminals is the project partner and will finance most of the construction as a part of the concession agreement signed with the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine.

“QTerminal, a Qatar sea port operator, is confident that Ukraine is a promising investment market. That is why we support the social infrastructure of Mykolayiv and contribute to the formation of a favorable ecosystem of the sea port industry. This is the first large infrastructure project in the region, which business is implementing together with the municipal authorities,” said Raivis Veckagans, QTerminals representative, during the working meeting.

The mayor of Mykolayiv said that the construction of a transportation hub will not affect the usual rhythm of the city life and will be carried out without stopping the movement of automobile and railway transport.

“Such interchanges should be modern and convenient for those who use them. It is good that the project is being implemented through the partnership between the city and business. The commissioning of this interchange will benefit both city residents and business,” stressed Alexander Senkevich.
