In 2021, the cargo turnover of Nika-Tera seaport increased by 3.4% compared to 2020

In 2021, the cargo turnover of Nika-Tera seaport, a member of Group DF, went up from 7.38 million t to 7.63 million t.

The seaport handled 6.9 million t of export cargo, 506,000 t of import cargo, 226,000 t of transit cargo and cabotage.

The cargo mix was as follows:

At the same time, the number of transshipped heavy-tonnage vessels with a displacement of more than 65,000 t increased from 23 to 24.

“We managed to increase the volume of transshipment despite the drop in freight turnover by 3.8% on average in the industry. One of the growth factors in 2021 was a good harvest. By improving all our business processes, we offer farmers competitive services for cargo transshipment and handling. We are changing a lot in our business approaches; this is the way forward for the seaport of the new generation. Our competitive advantage includes offering services on a just-in-time (JIT) basis and implementing international standards. Our 2022 outlook is optimistic, though it all will depend on the macroeconomics, on whether the country’s agriculture will be able to deliver the harvests of the similar levels,” commented Alim Agakishiev, CEO, Nika-Tera seaport.

In 2021, the number of grain trucks handled at the seaport increased by 13% to reach 74,557 vehicles, while the number of grain hoppers handled increased by 15.6% to reach 72,996 units.

According to Alim Agakishiyev, the seaport is primarily focused on meeting the farmers’ needs. The seaport implemented a project that included a series of technological and logistical solutions and optimization of interaction with the railway operators to improve the service.

“Following this project, the seaport increased the daily productivity when handling the large-capacity vessels and, consequently, we have one of the best performance indicators in terms of the rate of transshipment in Mykolaiv region,” noted Agakishiev.

In 2021, the company continued to implement the Program intended to increase the seaport throughput capacity, which included the modernization of existing facilities, implementation of innovative technologies and acquisition of new equipment. Group DF investments were used to purchase new laboratory equipment, which significantly increased the rate and accuracy of quality analysis for incoming cargo. The fleet of special-purpose vehicles of the company was restocked with Sennebogen automatic mobile loader and two CAT 908 compact wheel loaders.

Dmytro Firtash’s Group DF invested more than UAH1.5 billion to develop the seaport.
