For 6 months of 2020, PJSC “Azot” (Cherkasy), a member of Group DF nitrogen line of business, produced 809 600 t of nitrogen fertilizers, in particular: 215 500 t of ammonia nitrate, 321 400 t of urea, 267 000 t of UAN, 5 700 t of aqueous ammonia, 425 500 t of ammonia, including 42 000 t of commodity ammonia.
“Two basic factors contributed to the volume of production, i.e. reasonable gas price and the adoption by ICIT of a lobbying decision on the unlimited and uncontrolled import of foreign nitrogen fertilizers to Ukraine. The second factor prevailed and it forced us to start reducing the headcount. In practice, the Government proved completely incapable of protecting its industry and the interests of the people working in Ukrainian chemical plants. The Prime Minister’s statements on the economic nationalism and the protection of Ukrainian economy remained mere declarations. Due to the unabashed lobbying of the Ministry of Economy, the ICIT was unable to impose import quotas on fertilizers; as a result, all Ukrainian chemical plants, not only PJSC “Azot” (Cherkasy) were forced to start laying off the workers. The consequences of the unprofessional and anti-Ukrainian decision by the ICIT are not difficult to estimate: foreign chemical enterprises will earn more on the territory of Ukraine, the demand for domestic products will decrease, the revenues of Ukrainian plants will fall,” commented Mr. Vitaliy Sklyarov, Chairman of the Board, PJSC “AZOT” (Cherkasy).
