History

Founded by Dmitry Firtash, Group DF is a dynamically growing international group of companies aiming for leadership positions in its core business segments.

1988-1992

Dmitry Firtash commenced his business by organising commodity trading in Ukraine and Russia.

1993-2001

In 1993, Dmitry Firtash established business ties in Central Asia and organised supplies of consumer goods in exchange for natural gas, continuously developing this business over the subsequent years.

2002

Eural TransGas Kft, a company founded by Dmitry Firtash, secured exclusive contracts to supply Turkmen gas to Ukraine.

2003

Dmitry Firtash founded EMFESZ Kft, the ‘First Hungarian Natural Gas and Energy Trading and Service Provider’, to develop a major gas and energy business in Hungary.

2004

RosUkrEnergo AG joint company established by Dmitry Firtash and Gazprom (Russia). Mr Firtash founded ZANGAS JSC in Russia to develop an oil and gas pipeline construction and infrastructure business.

Dmitry Firtash became a shareholder of Crimea TITAN JSC, a Ukrainian titanium dioxide producer, and majority shareholder of Crimean Soda Plant JSC, a Ukrainian soda ash producer. OSTCHEM holding company was founded to consolidate the chemicals businesses of Mr Firtash.

2005

RosUkrEnergo AG commenced supplying natural gas from Central Asian countries to Ukraine and European states. The gas supplies continued until the end of 2008. EMFESZ Kft obtained a license to supply natural gas to Poland.

2006

Irshansk Mining and Concentration Complex, a branch of Crimea TITAN JSC, started developing three new sites for the production of ilmenite.

2007

Group DF, an international group of companies, was formed to ensure effective management of Dmitry Firtash’s assets in the Energy and Chemicals sectors, as well as in the Real Estate sector which the Group entered the same year.

2008

In September 2008, Crimea TITAN JSC started construction of a new sulphuric acid workshop aiming at substantially increasing its titanium dioxide production capacities. The Crimean Soda Plant JSC increased the production of soda ash to a record volume of 764 thousand tons.

2009

In line with Group DF’s strategy to increase energy efficiency at its production units, Crimean Soda Plant JSC launched a steam turbine generating 20 percent of its energy needs.

2010

Aiming to improve its corporate governance, achieve greater transparency and rationalise its legal structure, Group DF launched a large-scale transformation programme with engagement of PwC, the leading international audit and consulting firm.

OSTCHEM acquired a majority stake in Concern Stirol JSC, a major Ukrainian mineral fertiliser producer located in Gorlovka. Crimea TITAN JSC produced a record volume of 105 thousand tons of titanium dioxide.

2011

Group DF International was established as the Corporate Centre of Group DF responsible for managing the Group transformation programme and ensuring its effective implementation. The Corporate Centre determines the general direction and strategy for Group DF and its businesses, as well as considering other key strategic issues for the Group.

Group DF expanded into the banking sector by acquiring a majority stake in Commercial Bank Nadra JSC, one of the largest universal banks in Ukraine.

OSTCHEM acquired majority stakes in Azot (Cherkassy) JSC, Severodonetsk Azot Association JSC and Rivne Azot JSC. Consolidation of four major Ukrainian nitrogen fertilizer producers enables OSTCHEM to optimise its investment, production, marketing, logistics and sales policies, while also decreasing operating costs.

To build secure logistics links with its customers, OSTCHEM acquired a majority stake in Nika Tera Specialized Seaport LLC located in the Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv near the Black Sea. In addition to mineral fertilizers, the port also transships grains, edible oil, sulphur, rock phosphate and coal.

2012

Group DF implemented its first agribusiness project with the construction of DF Agro (Synkiv) greenhouse complex. The Group also became the majority shareholder of UkrAgro NPK JSC, the leading pan-Ukrainian mineral fertilizer distribution network.

Completion of construction of a new sulphuric acid workshop with a production capacity of 600 thousand tons per annum enabled Crimea TITAN JSC to increase its annual titanium dioxide production capacity to 120 thousand tons.

In December 2012, Group DF consolidated 100 percent of shares in Crimea TITAN JSC.

2013

Group DF entered the media segment by acquiring a majority stake in Inter Media Group, a vertically integrated Ukrainian media group which includes INTER, one of the leading Ukrainian nationwide television channels.

Group DF became an investor of Zaporozhye Titanium and Magnesium Combine (ZTMC), which is the only titanium sponge producer in Ukraine, as well as in Europe. Titanium sponge is used for production of titanium ingots and alloys.

2014

Group DF expanded the mineral fertilizer regional distribution network of UkrAgro NPK from 15 to 25 warehouses.
